Alternatives to Celebrity Makeup Brands

Like most women I take my makeup seriously, and put a lot of thought into what brands and types of makeup that I purchase and wear. Celebrities like television stars, movie stars and models are constantly coming out with their own unique brands for cosmetics, but are these really any different from the traditional makeup brands that you can find in your corner store? Let’s look at what celebrity makeup brands are all about, and take a look at some of the available alternatives to celebrity makeup brands that can deliver the same incredible results.

The general consensus when it comes to makeup brands and other beauty brands is that the products that the celebrities are marketing are somehow a higher caliber product than standard name brand products. Because a high class celebrity is endorsing these products, either as a spokesperson or by imprinting their name on the products, consumers are expected to regard them as the best of the best in cosmetic brands. The truth is, however, there is very little that sets these high class beauty brands apart from the alternatives to celebrity makeup brands. If you pick up a little known brand name concealer or eye shadow from your local market, you will not necessarily be opting for a lesser quality product, but you may be saving yourself a lot of money in the process.

Your makeup arsenal should be well stocked with a variety of different types of makeup, but is there really a difference between the ritzy celebrity brands and the more traditional makeup brands that you see at your local corner store? Your makeup arsenal should include blush, bronzers, concealers, eye liners, eye shadows, foundations, lip sticks, lip liners and lip glosses, lotions, mascaras, nail polishes, powders, rouges and anything else that you need to "put your face on" in the morning. Do you know how to choose the right brands and styles of these makeup products for you? In most cases, it isn’t the caliber of the product that makes it right for you. Just because you buy the most renowned celebrity brand in the magazine ads, it does not mean you are going to end up looking any better than if you were to stock your toolbox with lesser known brands that better suit your own complexion and personal needs.

Blush - Blushes come in three different basic varieties, the brush, the cream and the stain. Each of these varieties offers a different application method, and a different end result. Some blush solutions suit people better than others, and it may be necessary to try out different options before you feel really comfortable. There is plenty of high end, luxury style blush products available with celebrity names, but you will turn heads just as easily with a blush like rimmel Mousse, 50 percent water with a soft focus and slightly shimmery finish that brightens complexions all throughout the day for only $7.00.

Concealers - For many women, concealer is a product that you cannot leave home without. There are plenty of high end solutions for concealing products, but they aren’t going to score you a better looking complexion than some of the standard brands on the market. An excellent alternative to celebrity brand concealer products is the Prescriptives AnyWear Multi-Purpose Makeup Stick. The company may not be a head turner, but the AnyWear Multi-Purpose Makeup Stick utilizes a velvety formula that glides over dark circles and blemishes for partial coverage, or can be blended in all over for full foundational coverage.

Eye Makeup - If you’re looking for a Mascara product that turns heads without coming from a high class celebrity brand, consider CoverGirl’s LashBlast, which retails for only $7.50. This Mascara product utilizes spherical wax particles coaxing lashes into the perfect fan, and dual polymers that keep the mascara from smearing. CoverGirl’s LashBlast Mascara is definitely one of the smartest Mascara products on the market today.

Believe it or not, sometimes you can’t go wrong with the store brand. Avon has an extensive catalog for makeup products, and while it may be easy to assume that these products are sub par, the opposite is actually true. Cover Girl, Maybelline and other similar brands may not seem to live up to the expectations of the celebrities who are going out and founding their own makeup brands, but the truth is that these brands are not only high quality and providing excellent results, but they are also low cost and can be purchased from most stores.
