Skin Care Tips for Beautiful Hands

woman receiving a manicureIn today’s hustle bustle world, keeping up with your beauty routine can easily fall by the wayside. One of the first things that you may start to neglect are your hands and nails. Somehow, in the midst of juggling work and family life it is all too easy to forget to take care of your most used appendages. However, your hands are something that are always within view so you do want to find the time to give them a little tender loving care.

The key to finding time in your busy schedule to attend to your hands and nails is to be practical about what you have time and money to commit to. There are great varieties of ways that you can care for your hands and nails so the first step is to decide how you would like your hands to appear.

If you are on a tight budget then chances are you will not have the extra money to keep up with acrylic nails. Additionally, you will need to take a careful look at what your lifestyle involves when you are determining how long you would like your nails to be. If you are someone who is really active in athletics or tends to type a lot on the computer then super long nails are not going to be the best choice for you.

Many people do not have it in their budget to go for weekly manicures. However, it is not a bad idea to go and get a professional manicure to get your nails and cuticles properly shaped. From there you will have a great shot at maintaining the appearance of your hands with a little effort.

When looking at what type of nails are easiest to maintain it is worth noting that utilizing your natural nails are much more easier than acrylic or gel tip nails. In fact, in terms of fashion trend taking advantage of what you naturally have has become more and more en vogue. The key is to shape those natural nails so that they look as good as they possibly can. You will want to let your nails grow to a mid-length. You do not want your nails to be too short otherwise, they may look too manly to be fashionable. However, you want to keep them at a reasonable length because if they get too long they will begin to look like daggers, and can actually become quite brittle due to their length.

To really care for your hands and nails the main thing that you need to make sure that you are doing is hydrating. Your hands can dry out incredibly quickly due to hand washing and day-to-day activities. You need to make sure that you have a great hydrating energy on hand to replace the moisture that you lose throughout the day. Additionally, it is always good to find a moisturizer that has vitamin B in it as that will help your nails become stronger and more durable.

You will also want to take some time to tend to your cuticles, which is the skin that lines the bed of the nail. Just as you need to moisturize your hands, you will also want to hydrate your cuticles. There are special creams and oils that you can find at your local drug store that are dedicated to hydrating your cuticles. You should use these creams immediately after bathing and right before bed. You never want to trim your cuticles as this can actually open up your nail beds to infection. Instead, you will want to soak your fingers in warm soapy water, and then use an orange stick to gently push back your cuticles.

Once you have your hands hydrated, your nails have been filed to the shape of your choice, and your cuticles have been pushed back you are ready for polish. The first thing that you need to do is to apply a base coat to your nails. Though it may seem like an extraneous step, it is not. By applying a base coat to your nails, you will ensure that your nail will not absorb any of the color that you are then going to apply to it. This will actually result in having to do less maintenance in the long run.

After you have applied a base coat, then you can apply the color of your choice. For most colors, you will want to apply two coats for the best color coverage. However, make sure that you are not applying your second coat before the first one has dried. That will only result in a gloppy and sloppy application. Instead, if you take the time to let that first coat dry you will actually have a longer lasting polish application.
