Hair Removal Treatments - Getting Ready for Summer
Ah, summertime. It’s time to switch our wardrobes over to the sleeveless shirts and bathing suits. While we as women want to have smooth legs and skin all the time, it’s especially important once we have to bare our skin. Just what is the best way to remove hair and still have smooth touchable skin? There are several choices, and the hair removal industry is constantly coming up with new and innovative products. Here’s a review of how some of these work so you can find the right technique before you pull out those strappy sandals with that sexy skirt.
SHAVING
The old standby, shaving is still a good option. The old fashioned razors for women were second rate, but with the new innovative blades we get the same quality as men. From the new scented shaving cream to the designer razors, women can get awesome results with a good razor.
Buying the drugstore brand razors is not the thing you want to skimp on. Having a name brand razor with a quality blade is worth it’s weight in gold. Look for the number of blades so you only have to make one pass, and the moisturizing strip will help you keep your legs soft. Always make sure to moisturize your legs (and other areas) after you shave.
HAIR REMOVAL CREAMS / SPRAYS
If the razor isn’t the route you want to take, perhaps you want to consider a hair removal cream or spray. These are still at home treatments, and while products like Nair have been around for years, there are new types of creams emerging.
The plusses of using a cream are having no nicks or cuts, and the decline in hair growth over time. People who use Nair and other similar products, such as Veet and Carefree, love the results and many of these women will use it on sensitive areas on a regular basis.
There are many women who use this regularly.
WAXING
For those who are truly brave, waxing will remove hair from the root (ouch!), giving you smooth, touchable skin. Removing your hair from the root will give you a longer break between your hair removing sessions.
Waxing requires some tough skin. You apply hot wax to a section, lay down a strip, and pull it away from the hair. There are some manufacturers that give explicit directions, such as “Completely Bare”. Their kit is somewhat pricey, however. You an get the same results with a less expensive wax, but the directions and special soothing creams may be a nice touch for you.
When it comes to eyebrows, waxing at home is the only way I thin my brows! The small $5.00 investment lasts for multiple uses, and makes me feel like a million bucks. Waxing my brows doesn’t irritate my skin, and it lasts for about two weeks.
LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENTS
If the short term fix isn’t what you want, but are willing to invest in getting rid of your hair for months at a time, laser treatment offers a promising alternative. Performed at a medical office or a spa, these sessions use laser to reduce the long term hair production. By producing heat within the hair and the follicle, the follicle goes to a resting stage.
This is a little tricky because the hair shaft has to be treated without harming the skin. Finding someone with experience is essential.
Expect to go through three to five treatments, in intervals of four to eight weeks. Maintenance treatment may be needed to keep hair gone over time, but may only be required at annual intervals. This depends on the individual and what area has been treated.
AT HOME HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENTS
The “No! No!” by Radiancy is being released this fall. Designed to be used like a razor, it is created to eventually reduce hair density over time. This product has been used in Europe and South America, and is expected to cost around $249.
When finding the right hair removal treatment method, it will depend on a variety of factors: convenience, cost and how much you want to invest. Although I have some days when I would rather have my hair lasered away, most of the time I’m content with my Gillette Sensor Excel. There’s nothing better than running your hand up a freshly shaved leg!
Make sure that you keep your skin moisturized and soft for the best and longest lasting effects. Once you step out of the shower, with your legs still wet, make sure to apply a good moisturizer to lock in the softness. You’ll be proud of the soft, touchable skin you’ll have.
