Why Americans Are Choosing Simple Wellness Over Health Fads

  • August 12, 2026

Many people are rethinking their approach to health and realizing that wellness does not always require complicated routines, expensive tools, or endless trends. Basic habits like quality sleep, daily movement, and balanced meals are gaining attention as more Americans look for practical ways to support their well-being.

According to data from Talker Research on behalf of The Vitamin Shoppe, more than half of Americans plan to make wellness changes this year. Around 44% are focusing on better sleep, regular physical activity, and healthier eating habits, rather than relying on more complex wellness methods, which only 21% prioritize.

This shift reflects a growing interest in selective wellness, where people choose proven habits over every new health hack or online trend.

Jordan Lee Dooley, author of “Be Good to Your Body,” shared advice for reducing wellness stress: “In a world of endless fads and health trends, my best advice to reduce overwhelm is to prioritize the big stuff first.”

Choosing What Actually Helps

Health information, supplements, and fitness technology are widely available, but too many choices can make wellness feel overwhelming.

Dr. Sarah Jamison, a member of The Vitamin Shoppe Wellness Council, noted that people are recognizing how better health does not always require a complicated solution, especially as interest in basics like fiber continues to grow.

Some new wellness ideas can still be useful. Trends such as TikTok’s 3×3 by 12 challenge encourage healthy routines, but many people may not need another wearable device or advanced health tracker.

A healthier lifestyle often starts with simple actions repeated consistently. Prioritizing sleep, movement, and nutritious food can create a strong foundation without adding unnecessary pressure.
